Finding the RTSP link for your security camera is usually more difficult than you first expect. So, we’ve created this guide just for you so you can find your RTSP link in about 5 minutes. But first, let’s go over why you need the RTSP link in the first place.

RTSP stands for Real-Time Streaming Protocol. This protocol is how IP Security Cameras send their video and audio feed to a viewing device and the RTSP link is where the video and audio feed is being sent to. In the case of Safewatch, the feed is then sent to Safewatch’s application for automated home security and workflow automation.

Now, let’s go over how you can find the RTSP link of your security camera regardless of the model or manufacturer using the free ONVIF Device Manager open-source application.

How To Find the RTSP Link in Five Easy Steps

Step #1: Download & Install ONVIF Device Manager

To download and install ONVIF Device Manager, head to their download page here then click on the large green download button. Once the file downloads, open it and follow the on-screen instructions for installing the application. We will use ONVIF Device Manager to locate the exact RTSP link your security cameras use.

Step #2: Connect to the Same Network as Your Security Cameras

For ONVIF Device Manager to find your security cameras, the computer you’re using must be connected to the same network as your security cameras. If your security cameras use your home wifi network, you’re most likely already connected to the same network.

Step #3: Open ONVIF Device Manager and Scan for Devices

Once you’ve finished downloading and installing ONVIF Device Manager, open the application. After opening the application, click “Refresh” to scan your network for devices.

Step #4: Find Your Security Camera Feed Within ONVIF Device Manager

After ONVIF Device Manager has scanned your network for devices, it will have found your security camera if it is on the same network you’re connected to. To find your security camera, navigate to “Live Video” from the device list menu and select your security camera. This will pull up your security camera’s live feed. You may need to enter your security camera’s password in the top left corner if it is password protected.

Step #5: Copy Your RTSP Link

With the live feed of your security camera pulled up, the RTSP link of your security camera will be directly under the live feed video. The entire link displayed below the live feed is the RTSP link of your camera which is what you use to connect your security camera to Safewatch.
